NEED A LAWYER?
Call our office for a face-to-face consultation with a lawyer.
Legal Referral Service is a non-profit service certified by The State Bar of California and sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Bar Association (#0055) in order to help the public get legal advice at a reasonable fee. For $50 we arrange for you to meet in the office of a lawyer who handles the type of law that you need. The meeting is for up to 1/2 hour and the lawyer is volunteering their time to meet with you. Then if you want to work with the lawyer for anything further, the two of you make those financial arrangements between you. Call (831) 425-4755 for an appointment.

The fee is $50 for up to a half hour consultation which in turn comes back to the Lawyer Referral Service. The attorney is volunteering his/her time to meet with you for the first meeting. If you decided to hire the lawyer, any further charges will be up to you and your lawyer to arrange.

What are the qualifications of the Lawyers?

In order to work with Lawyer Referral Service, attorneys must submit an application to us and meet State Bar and local Bar requirements. They must have experience in order to give advice in certain fields of law. They must have insurance, and they cannot have any disciplinary actions against them. Once they are accepted to work with the service, in order to avoid discrimination, they are all considered equally qualified to give legal advice. In order to book your appointment, we select the first lawyer who is available at the time you need; we arrange the appointment; and then we call you back with the appointment information and the name and address of the lawyer we have found for you. Call (831) 425-4755 for an appointment.

What kind of Lawyer will I need?

What if I can't afford a Lawyer?

If finances are a problem and you have already spoken to California Rural Legal Assistance (formerly Legal Aid) who has referred you back to Lawyer Referral Service please read How Lawyer Referral Service Works above. If money is still a consideration, call the CRLA back at (831) 688-6535 and let them know you have been informed of how our service works and that you need a fee waiver. They will ask questions to evaluate your situation. If you qualify, they will allow you to pick up a fee-waiver document at which time you may call the LRS back for an appointment (831) 425-4755. The fee waiver is for the consultation only and does not pertain to the lawyer's fees. You will need to make those arrangements with him/her at the time of your visit.
